Peat Moss

Peat moss, a natural organic material derived from decomposed sphagnum moss, is a valuable soil amendment known for its ability to improve moisture retention, enhance nutrient uptake, and promote healthy root development in plants

Peat Moss Uses

  • Used as a Potting Soil Mix (as a soil amendment) due to its ability to soften the soil structure and improve drainage since it does not Compact.

  • Hydroponic growing Medium- peat moss is a good growing medium for the soilless culture. However, people do not use it alone but often in conjunction with other growing media like Vermiculite.

Benefits of using peat moss

  1. Sterile – It does not have any bacteria, Fungus, Harmful chemicals and weed seeds.

  2. Moisture retention – Peat moss can absorb and retain water very well making it a great place for seed starting. 

  3. Does not compact – by introducing peat moss to any compact material, the compaction problem is solved and makes the growing mix drain better.

Vermiculite

Vermiculite is an inorganic substrate that traps Moisture in the soil where you are growing your seedlings to enhance their survival.

Vermiculite uses

  • Used in conjunction with other growing media like peat moss during propagation.

  • It’s also used as an anti-caking agent in fertilizer.

Benefits of using Vermiculite

  1. It helps to make the soil lighter and less compact 

  2. It also makes the soil aerated Naturally and the roots are able to develop at a much faster rate.
